The Soo Health and Sports Hall
MajorArchitecture [M.Arch]
DescriptionThe Soo Health and Sports Hall is a project that promotes health, community, and fitness through the designed environment. The building’s orientation compliments the photovoltaic array on the sloping roof, while the form of the building promotes visitors from the community and otherwise to experience the unique local surroundings of the site. Main program areas are located in two separate wings of the building, while common use and smaller scale spaces are situated in the center of the building.
While both main program areas are double-volume spaces, the running track is suspended from the roof structure and surrounds the perimeter of the gymnasium. Classrooms and multipurpose rooms are given direct access to daylight on both levels of the building. The second floor is an open floor plan with various exercise equipment available throughout.
