DescriptionFLOW, an autonomous rideshare start-up, is looking to establish a corporate HQ in the Loop district of Chicago, Illinois. The chosen site is directly connected to the iconic “L” train, which the company plans to re-invent. This tech office, designed to emulate city life and public transport, aims to draw employees back into the workplace and promote worker productivity, talent acquisition, and engagement based on extensive research on post-pandemic corporate trends, generational personality shifts, employee preferences, and the introduction of new + innovative space-typologies.
The spatial arrangement of the office is divided into regions such as “neighborhoods,” with a common “highway” for circulation. Departments have a familiar residential feeling with discussion, meeting, and lounge areas such as “front porches” and “living rooms.” Micro offices and flex spaces allow employees to tailor their work environment to their personal preferences, representing the spirit of a youthful, ambitious corporation. The space is located within the concrete jungle and features raw structural elements complemented with soft, natural materials emphasizing color and light.
