MajorArchitecture [M.Arch]
DescriptionThe Soo Health and Sports Hall is a robust community athletics center designed to serve the sister cities of Sault Ste Marie. Located on Ashmun Bay, near the Soo Locks, the center provides a space for wellness, socialization, and connecting with nature.
Program is strategically organized into four blocks, which are gathered together to define a central atrium. The atrium features a winter garden and acts as the central circulation and gathering space. The building is oriented to favor views of Ashmun Bay and southern sun exposure for daylighting and energy generation. Exposed mass timber portal frames produce a unique visual experience for the user, creating an overhead canopy of structure that complements the interior garden.
