DescriptionThe goal of the project is to discover how design can improve the physical, psychological, emotional, and perceptive safety for students and staff within high schools. With school shooting incidents reaching a historic peak, the scope of this project involves creating a physically safe space; something that can provide tangible safety in the event of an emergency. As we have learned through research, most active school shooting incidents are internal; the assailant is typically a student that attends that school. Also, more often than not the attacker is a victim of bullying, mental health, and/or battling a poor home or academic life. The goal is to design an environment where those who are harassing others can find healthy ways to cope with their stressors, and those who are victims have a safe outlet to confide in. Thus, creating an overall sense of inclusion, comfort, and safety.
