Step: a coffee table inspired by tools found in the workshop. Step blocks, are simple mechanical devices crafted using 21st Century machines. This new Step consists of two pieces that clamp and hold, a wedge and a cylinder which can be arranged in different fashions. Ridges on the mating surfaces allow the overall height to be adjusted.

DESCRIPTION
With the cork squiggle trivets, materiality meets multiplicity. Cork is a unique and versatile material – impervious to heat, resistant to stains, and able to be machined with traditional woodworking tools. The pieces were designed to be arranged into multiple patterns and configurations. They were fabricated on a CNC router, which has become a common tool accessible to independent designers and makers. This digital fabrication method allows consistent reproduction of precise geometric forms, on a small batch scale.

DESCRIPTION
The dimple trivets were made with a marriage of classical and modern batch production techniques. An ancient Roman sculptor would understand the basic steps in casting these tabletop objects, yet technology has transformed every step. The model was made with a CNC router, the mold was made from silicone, and the objects were cast in eco resin, a polymer-fortified gypsum plaster (Jesmonite).
