Texture, Depth, & Brand: Mugler

Description

Project Brief
Students will test the scanner's shallow depth of field limitations and create a series of images parodying established brands, focusing on depth, texture, and text. They'll juxtapose contrasting objects for visual tension, layering them intentionally. Clear text must appear in two images, and students will develop promotional visuals either highlighting or satirizing a chosen theme or brand.

Brand Description
Mugler, is a French fashion and fragrance brand founded by the designer Thierry Mugler in 1974. Mugler is renowned for its bold, avant-garde designs that often push the boundaries of fashion and incorporate elements of fantasy and futurism.

Process
Various material swatches that featured many futuristic elements, such as reflectivity and abstract geometric patterns were used to create backdrops for the photos. In addition to that there was a doll used to mock some unrealistic standards, set by the modeling industry. The doll is wrapped in ace bandages to add texture and to mimic pieces designed by Mugler. Text was added digitally to re-emphasize the company branding while also adding depth to the photos.
