DescriptionLocated in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the Soo Health and Sports Hall is a testament to the harmonious integration of architecture with community and environment. Positioned along the power canal, this facility maximizes breathtaking views and leverages the natural beauty of its setting. The building’s orientation and extensive use of glass not only invite natural light but also frame the surrounding landscapes, fostering a deep connection with the outdoors.
Designed as a vibrant hub for health and sports, the Soo Health and Sports Hall embodies the community's commitment to wellness and environmental stewardship. Utilizing sustainable materials such as Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and featuring advanced architectural elements like a rain screen facade, the structure achieves high energy efficiency and reduces environmental impact. The hall serves as a multi-functional space, accommodating a wide array of activities that include swimming, gymnasium sports, and community events. Its design cleverly balances public and private spaces, making it a central gathering place that encourages active community participation.
With every design decision guided by the dual ethos of community enhancement and environmental respect, the Soo Health and Sports Hall is more than just a building—it’s a pivotal element of local life, promoting health, sports, and an integrated community spirit in a sustainably built environment.
