Megan Cecchetti

mcecchett@ltu.edu

Cecchetti is a senior architecture student at Lawrence Technological University. She is also pursuing her Masters of Architecture here at LTU as well. Over the past 4 years here, Megan has found a profound interest in sustainable design. This passion is reflected in her Comprehensive Design project with her building design relying on solar energy and solar heating to sustain the building. She has also taken an interest in the building’s relationship to natural daylight, as her building design ensures that every room has access to natural daylight- eliminating the building’s reliance on artificial light during peak hours of the day. Megan has accepted a Project Assistant position at Hobbs + Black Architects in Ann Arbor, Michigan and plans to pursue obtaining her architectural license.

Description

This year’s Comprehensive Design project, known as The Soo Health and Sport Hall located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, is a semester-long project, moving through the different design stages from initial research, to schematic design, and finally to design development. This project responds to the overall site constraints, such as working with the existing site attributes and orientation for daylight exposure. Working on the Historic Maritime Park site, there are several historical buildings that surround the site, with their own architectural language. This project both counteracts the overall rectilinear street fronts of the surrounding buildings with its curvilinear facades, as well as reinforces the rectilinear aspects with the towering photovoltaic canopy. Each aspect of the building design was carefully thought out in order to provide guests the best quality visual and environmental experience possible.
