Arbor Cottages
MajorArchitecture [M.Arch]
DescriptionThe goal of Arbor Cottages is to provide affordable, missing middle housing to the North Side area of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The main target demographic are individuals between the ages of 25 to 35 who are looking to move out of their expensive Ann Arbor apartment into their first home. In an already densely populated urban area, the goal of this project is to tie nature back into a neighborhood setting. The introduction of community courtyards, that are meant to be community gathering spaces, will help to achieve this goal. This arrangement is able to utilize the given area more efficiently than if this neighborhood was just single family residences. Areas of this project are able to double the capacity of a single family unit lot by implementing a duplex building within the footprint. Townhouses are also incorporated in order to allow for more occupancy per unit lot.
