The Soo Recreation Center
MajorArchitecture [BS]
DescriptionThe Sault Saint Marie Recreation Center is a place where the community can come together to enjoy local sporting events and where people can come to appreciate the beautiful landscape that exists on the shore of Ashmun Bay. The building was designed based on a central corridor where rooms protrude off in a modular fashion. This method created three distinct building sections that then became a hierarchical standard for the project. The central corridor is the first section of the hierarchy and produces effective wayfinding and circulation throughout the building and surrounding site. The second section of the hierarchy is north east of the central corridor and this holds the larger gathering spaces such as the gymnasium and natatorium. The final section of the building holds the smaller spaces where more privacy is necessary. This design allows for a better integration of spaces and more user friendly experience.
