First-Year Ignite

First Year Ignite is an orientation program for all first-year students. Held before classes begin, First Year Ignite focuses on the first-year experience, campus involvement, history and traditions, and the spirit of LTU.

First Year Ignite is your chance to create your own community within LTU. You’ll leave with a better idea of what it means to be an LTU Blue Devil!

Participants will not only receive pertinent information about life as a first-year student at Lawrence Tech but will also:

  • Build relationships with their peers to ease the transition to college life
  • Develop awareness on topics such as alcohol awareness, sexual harassment, Title IX, and so much more!
  • Learn important University Policies & Procedures
  • Discover all of LTU co-curricular activities
  • And, have fun!

Who Will Be There?

All incoming first-year students and transfer students with less than 30 credit hours are required to attend First Year Ignite. In addition to the over 300 first year and transfer students, you will also meet an outstanding group of student leaders who will serve as Ignite Leaders.

You will be part of a small group of students which will be led by an Ignite Leader. Together, you will share in the experience of team-building, learning how to get involved at LTU, and develop leadership skills within you! During the two days, you will also be able to interact with University administrators and alumni that work with students here at LTU!

First Year Ignite is mandatory for all incoming students at LTU.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
