Preparing for registration

Several weeks prior to registration, students are strongly encouraged to login to BannerWeb to view any holds that may exist on their student account that prohibit registration. This will allow students the opportunity to resolve their holds and allow them to register for the upcoming semester. If a student does have a hold on their record, they should contact the department that issued the hold to begin the resolution process.

In addition, most students are required to meet with their advisor before they register. (There are some exceptions to this; contact your advisor or the One Stop Center to ask if you are required to have an advisor’s authorization to register.)

ALT/PIN advising information

All undergraduate students (with the exception of dual Civil Engineering/Architecture students) must meet with an advisor in advance to ensure they do not have a hold that will prevent registration.

For dual Civil Engineering/Architecture students, the ALT PIN is required. This ALT PIN can only be obtained through your academic advisor. The One-Stop Center in the Office of the Registrar CANNOT give out an ALT PIN.  The ALT PIN will be required for these students to register online via BannerWeb.

If there are no holds on the student account, the student should register online via BannerWeb. Login to the secure area using your Banner ID and your pin number. If you forget your pin or get locked out of your account contact the One-Stop Center at enrollmentservices@ltu.edu or 248.204.2280 have your pin reset.

Once in BannerWeb:

  1. Go to Student Services and Financial Aid
  2. Select Registration
  3. Then, select Add/Drop Classes
  4. Enter the Term and Alt Pin if prompted
  5. Either Search for Classes or Register using the CRN numbers. (CRN numbers are specific to an individual course section and are important in the registration process).

Prerequisite reminder

As a reminder, the University enforces all course prerequisites during registration. This means that if you attempt to register for a course for which you do not have the prerequisite(s), the system will prevent your registration for that course. Please note: prerequisite waivers approved for previous semesters only apply for that semester. The most current list of prerequisites can be found online, using BannerWeb. If you wish to take a course for which you do not have a prerequisite, you may seek permission by contacting the Chair of the department offering the course. The Department Chairperson will enter the online Prerequisite Override, which eliminates the forms and allows you to register online!

Check prerequisites early and plan your scheduling options—know what to do if a class is closed!

Plan your schedule

A registered student may add an open course (or courses) within the registration and initial add/drop period (typically the first week of the semester) via BannerWeb, provided that all prerequisites are satisfied and no holds prevent registration.

Updating your schedule

Any changes to a student’s schedule, including adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses, are effective on the date changes are entered by the student on BannerWeb.

Waitlists

A student can access the waitlist (if enabled) through the standard process of adding a course on BannerWeb during open registration. All pre-requisite and hold requirements (if any) must be met. A student is not guaranteed a seat in the course, regardless of position on the waitlist.

DegreeWorks

DegreeWorks is a web-based, degree-auditing and tracking tool that enables students and advisors to evaluate academic progress towards graduation in accordance to university and major requirements.
