Degree requirements

Minimum degree requirements

Lawrence Technological University conforms to commonly accepted minimum degree standards: 60 semester credits for associate’s degrees, 120 semester credits for bachelor’s degrees, and 30 semester credits beyond the bachelor’s for master’s degrees. Specific requirements in addition to these minimums can be found in our undergraduate and graduate catalogs.
  • 24 of the 60 credits for the associate’s degree with 12 hours in the chosen curriculum be credits earned at LTU and
  • 30 of the 120 credits earned for the bachelor’s degree with 14 credit hours in the chosen major be earned at LTU.

Degree eligibility

Degrees are awarded to candidates who have fulfilled the following requirements:

 

Minimum Undergraduate Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of all requirements in one of the degree programs as set forth in the Catalog. Any student required to take Basic Studies courses (course level zero) will receive credit hours and grade points for such courses, but the credit hours earned for these Basic Studies courses will not be included in the total hours required for graduation;
  • Undergraduate students: Must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all credit hours earned at LTU
  • Completion of the last two semesters of work for a degree at LTU

 

Associate Degrees

  • A minimum of 24 credit hours taken at LTU, with 12 hours of this work in the specialty courses of the chosen curriculum.

 

Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts

 

  • A minimum of 30 credit hours taken at LTU, with 14 hours of this work in student’s chosen major.

 

Graduate Requirements

 

  • Graduate students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.00 in all credit hours earned at LTU;
  • Master degrees offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, Management, and Engineering are awarded upon completion of all required course work within seven years of matriculation;
  • Both undergraduate and graduate students must submit an Application for Graduation approximately one semester before graduating. A new application must be submitted in the event the student does not complete degree requirements within one year;
  • Full payment of all financial obligations to the University. This includes exit counseling for loan recipients.

 

Doctoral Requirements

 

If you are a doctoral student there are a few extra steps to take when it comes to finishing up your program. Along with turning in an application to graduate form you will need to do the following:

  • Complete a Supplemental Doctoral Form. This form will be emailed to you by the Graduation Team (graduation@ltu.edu) roughly two months before the Commencement ceremony.

*The College of Engineering, the College of Business and Information Technology, and the College of Arts and Sciences currently do not offer graduation honors to their graduate students. †Diploma Honors will be granted to the degree recipients on the basis of the student’s record for all course work in the degree program at Lawrence Technological University. However, only courses taken at the University qualify for honor point credits. ‡7The cumulative GPA as of the student’s graduating semester will be used to determine honors.

Transfer Students

  • Associate Degrees – A transfer student must have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours at LTU to be eligible for diploma honors.
  • Bachelor Degrees – A transfer student must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours at LTU to be eligible for diploma honors.

Commencement honors eligibility (for honor cords worn at Commencement)

The above honors eligibility information is for diploma honors. This means that honors will appear on your diploma and transcript. For Commencement ceremony and program purposes, the following combined criteria is used:

May Commencement

  • (a) the cumulative GPA as of the Fall semester prior to graduation and (b) the total of the earned LTU credit hours as of the Fall semester prior to graduation, as well as the currently enrolled Spring credit hours

November or December Commencement

  • (a) the cumulative GPA as of the Summer semester prior to graduation and (b) the total of the earned LTU credit hours as of the Summer semester prior to graduation, as well as the currently enrolled Fall credit hours

Definitions

  • Credit Hours are determined by the amount of content/material relative to contact hours per week and instructional method (lecture, lab, studio).
  • Amount of Content is defined by faculty holding expertise within the contact hours per week are related to, but not based upon, instructional method (refer to NASAD, below, for standards)
    • Lecture: 1 credit = 1 contact hour + 2-3 hours of work outside class According to some accreditation standards, a well-prepared student should expect to spend between 2 and 3 hours of preparatory time for every hour of credit for the course, on average.
    • Lab: 1 credit = 1.5 to 3 contact hours + 1-2 hours of work outside class According to some accreditation standards, a well-prepared student should expect to spend between 1 and 2 hours of preparatory time for every hour of credit for the lab course, on average.
    • Studio: 1 credit = 2 contact hours + 1-2 hours of work outside class According to some accreditation standards, a well-prepared student should expect to spend between 1 and 2 hours of preparatory time for every hour of credit for the studio course, on average.
  • Instructional Method (lecture, lab, studio) is defined by student engagement with content.
    • Lecture: Conversation about content
    • Lab: Analysis of content
    • Studio: Synthesis of content
  • Program: Course of study that prepares all graduates with the knowledge and skills needed for the next steps in their careers and includes a Major, resulting in a Degree
  • Degree: Associate, baccalaureate, graduate or doctoral award bestowed upon those completing a Program of study.
  • Major: The portion of the Program that defines the field of study and justifies the conferring of a specific Degree in said field.
  • Minor: An academic study area at the undergraduate level that students elect to pursue secondary to their Major and permits the student to receive recognition.
  • Concentration: a focused study within a Degree that students elect to pursue secondary to their Major and permits the student to receive recognition.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
