Center for Teaching and Learning

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is LTU’s hub for teaching innovation and faculty development. We work alongside faculty across all five colleges to support intentional, discipline-responsive course design; inclusive and accessible learning environments; and ongoing pedagogical growth. Through consultation, instructional resources, workshops, and collaborative initiatives, the CTL helps translate the university’s educational mission into practice—one course, one conversation at a time.

Office Hours

Wednesdays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

M108 in the library (next to the proctoring room)

Drop in, no agenda required. CTL Office Hours are open to all faculty—bring a course design question, a teaching challenge you’re turning over, or just a topic you want to think through with a colleague. Sessions are informal and conversational; some turn into mini-workshops, some turn into good back-and-forth, most turn into something useful.

Vision

To be recognized as a leading center for best practices for effective and transformative teaching and learning.

Mission

To inspire faculty to create, share, and use methods and technological tools for effective teaching, communication, and assessment conducive to a student-focused education which is transformative and supportive of developing critical thinkers, skilled professionals, leaders, and lifelong learners.

Teaching Observation Program

The CTL offers collegial teaching observations as a resource for faculty at any career stage. Observations are structured around three dimensions of teaching practice — Creating Spaces, Engaging in Dialogue, and Making Meaning — and are conducted in a developmental, not evaluative, spirit. Faculty receive a written letter that captures specific moments from the classroom and identifies one area to explore further, always with reference to resources from the CTL Toolkit.

Observations can be requested by faculty directly or coordinated through department chairs and deans. All letters are shared only with the observed faculty member unless otherwise requested.
