Location: Buell Building (5) Atrium

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Lawrence Technological University’s Blue Devil Motorsports (BDM) teams will bring their 2026 competition vehicles to the starting line at the annual BDM unveiling event Tuesday, April 7.

The vehicles will take center stage beginning at noon in the atrium of LTU’s Buell Building (Building 5).

Each year, LTU students gain valuable career-enhancing experience through competitions that challenge them to tackle real-world design and engineering problems.

Students on the five competitive teams research, design, build, and test their vehicles and aircraft, while also raising funds and developing marketing presentations. At the end of the academic year, they test their knowledge and skills against other student teams in regional and international competitions.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the transportation engineers of tomorrow working with advanced electric, internal combustion, autonomous, and remote-controlled vehicles.

The teams unveiling their competition vehicles include:

  • Baja SAE, in which teams design, build, test, and race a single-seat off-road vehicle.
  • Formula Electric, where students design, fabricate, assemble, and test an all-electric, formula-style open-wheel race car.
  • Formula SAE, which challenges students to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small, formula-style open-wheel race cars.
  • Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, originally developed by the defense industry, which challenges teams to design and build autonomous ground vehicles.
  • SAE Aero Design, an aeronautical engineering competition in which students design, build, test, and fly a heavy-lift, radio-controlled aircraft.

The teams will travel across the nation for competitions in May and June, competing against hundreds of colleges and universities.
