LTU CoAD’s Associate Professors Steve Coy and Bilge Nur Saltik co-curated Art + Cars, an exhibition during Detroit’s Month of Design. The showcase, located at GM Entrance One, on the ground level of Hudson's Detroit, will begin on September 11th and run until October 30th, 2026, from 11am-7pm each day.
Detroit's creative identity has always been shaped by the intersection of art, design, engineering, and manufacturing. The automotive industry transformed the city into a global center of innovation, while generations of artists, designers, architects, musicians, and makers developed a creative culture equally defined by craftsmanship, experimentation, and bold ideas.
Throughout Detroit's history, these worlds have continually influenced one another. The precision of industrial design, the artistry of automotive styling, the city's architectural heritage, and its vibrant artistic community have collectively shaped Detroit's distinct creative identity. Today, that tradition continues as artists and designers draw inspiration from the city's manufacturing legacy while redefining what contemporary Detroit creativity looks like.
As Detroit celebrates Month of Design, this exhibition brings those parallel histories together. By presenting original artwork alongside iconic automobiles, the exhibition highlights a shared commitment to innovation, craftsmanship, and design excellence while celebrating the people who continue to shape Detroit's creative future.
GM and ArtClvb, a platform creating new ways to discover and experience original art, come together for a month-and-a-half long exhibition during Detroit’s Month of Design. Featuring original artwork, concept vehicles, artist collaborations, installations, and automotive design, the exhibition explores the creative exchange between Detroit’s artistic community and its culture of innovation.
