Salvatore Moschelli, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP has been selected as the recipient of the 27th annual LTU Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award! Join us in congratulating Sam as he becomes part of an elite group of LTU’s Architecture + Design Alumni. As project executive for Fanning Howey, Sam specializes in the design of high-performing buildings for K-12 and higher education clients. Sam is passionate about sustainability and has led integrated design teams through the successful completion of multiple LEED Gold certified buildings. Sam’s experience also includes the development of district-wide design standards, working with associate firms and collaborating with owner representatives and program managers.

Sam will share a lecture titled, Citizen Architect: The art of building by serving others. 

This lecture will explore my journey in building a life, a career, a network, a community, and architecture. I'll discuss how foundational service to organizations such as Sigma Phi Epsilon and AIA Detroit have helped to shape and direct my career and build a network that has set me up for success. Highlights will include my adventures in Haiti after the 2009 earthquake providing long-term disaster relief, as well as other periods in my career in areas of residential architecture, higher education, PK-12 projects, and a mix of event and experiential design.

    • Understand how volunteer service can impact your career.
    • Understand the importance of building a network.
    • Understand the skills that can be learned volunteering for non-profit organizations and how that impacts your career.

Citizen Architect: The art of building by serving others will be held at 1001 Woodward, 1001 Woodward, Detroit, MI and livestreamed. Registration requested.

CEU: This lecture equals 1 professional architecture credit. This lecture is free and open to the public.

The Lawrence Technological University DAA Award is given annually in recognition of the recipient’s professional, academic, and personal achievements including:

  • Local, national, and international professional accomplishments.
  • Support of the College of Architecture and Design.
  • Charitable, volunteer, and community service.

About:

An award-winning architect with 25 years of leadership and design experience, Moschelli has designed learning environment projects for public school, private school and higher education clients throughout Michigan. His extensive portfolio includes 2020 Bond Improvements for Birmingham Public Schools, the George and Mary Turek Hall of Science for Detroit Catholic Central and the Munger Graduate Residences for the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. He is the recipient of the 2017 AIA Detroit Young Architect Award and an active member of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA).

Moschelli graduated with a Masters of Architecture from Lawrence Technological University. He is a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He is also a LEED Accredited Professional.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
