Privacy Practices

Lawrence Technological University (LTU) endeavors to exercise care and prudence in the handling of personal information, including data gathered on LTU’s website (www.ltu.edu). This privacy statement explains how LTU collects, protects and utilizes that information. This privacy statement applies only to the Office of Human Resources.

To better inform you of our policy concerning user privacy, we have adopted the following Privacy Policies established to comply with state and federal laws that apply to everyone employed by the University.  

» HIPPA Privacy Policy

The Privacy Rule of the Federal law, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), establishes standards to protect the confidentiality of person’s Protected Health Information (PHI).  Lawrence Technological University privacy polices, established to comply with the Privacy Rule, apply to everyone employed by the University.  The document and form below describe our approach to handling your health information and support our privacy practices. 

The Notice of Privacy Practices document details our privacy practices and your rights with respect to the handling of your personal health information in accordance with the HIPAA.

The Information Security Program: Securing the Human is a series of educational videos that covers topics such as Wi-Fi Security, HIPAA, Working Remotely, Red Flags Rule, and Personally Identifiable Information. Some of the topics will be mandatory for all employees; others will be specific to certain job types on campus.

» Privacy Policy

To better inform you of our policy concerning user privacy, we have adopted the following Human Resources Privacy Policy established to comply with state and federal laws that apply to everyone employed by the University.  

In order for us to provide you with Lawrence Technological University services, we sometimes need to collect personal data to process activities such as your student applications, activities upon admission; for your accounts and in aggregate form, to track and analyze site usage.

In any event, we are committed to ensuring that the information we collect and use is appropriate for these purposes, and does not constitute an invasion of your privacy.

The personal information that Lawrence Technological University collects will depend on how you are using Lawrence Technological University websites and services.
  • The personal data we collect will be used for the following purposes:
    • Employment Administration (i.e., Background check, E-verify, HRIS),
    • Benefits Administration (i.e., HRIS, Image Now, Insurance Providers, Third Party Administrators, Benefit Providers, Benefits Agent/Broker)
  • Payroll processing
  • We may also use Google Analytics to collect website usage data for analysis. Google Analytics uses cookies to track user sessions to collect navigation patterns but never includes names, usernames, or email addresses. Individual IP addresses are collected, but they are not associated with individual users. You may prevent Google Analytics from collecting data by turning off cookies in the preferences settings in your browser.
  • As you visit our human resources websites, we also may collect certain non-personally identifiable information, such as the type of browser you are using (e.g., Firefox, Internet Explorer), the type of operating system you are using (e.g., Windows or Mac), and the domain name of your Internet service provider.
  • To enable your access to the Lawrence Technological University services, we may collect information concerning the your internet protocol address, your username and password, or other authentication methods, such as Shibboleth.
  • Lawrence Technological University may be legally obligated to collect, process and provide your personally identifiable information to third parties. Examples of requirements include:
    • Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Michigan Employment Security (MES) Act, US Department of Education, Fair Credit Reporting Act Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 ( ERISA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act ( COBRA ), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), US Department of Labor, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)
    • Other State and Federal Agencies as required
    • Sarbanes–Oxley Act
In such cases, the privacy policy governing the collection of your personally identifiable information shall be as set forth in such third parties’ privacy policies.do

Lawrence Technological University will process (collect, store and use) the information you provide in a manner that is compatible with regulatory and legitimate uses. We will endeavor to keep your information accurate and up to date, and not keep it for longer than is necessary. Lawrence Technological University is required to retain information in accordance with the law, such as information needed for income tax and audit purposes. How long certain kinds of personal data should be kept may also be governed by specific human resources requirements and agreed practices.

Lawrence Technological University (LTU) may work with other organizations. We may pass your personal data on to third-party service providers contracted to Lawrence Technological University in the course of dealing with you. We may also release your information to fulfill legal provisions as described above. Any third parties that we may share your data with are obliged to keep your details securely, and to use them only to provide specific human resource services for us. If we wish to pass your personal data onto a third party, we will only do so once we have obtained your consent unless we are legally required to do otherwise.

Our aim is not to be intrusive, and we undertake not to ask irrelevant or unnecessary questions. Moreover, the information you provide will be subject to reasonable measures and procedures to minimize the risk of unauthorized access or disclosure.

Upon request LTU will provide you with information about whether we hold any of your personal information. If you would like to review, delete or update your information, you may contact us using the contact information below. We will permit correction, amend, or delete information that is demonstrated to be inaccurate. We will respond to your request to privacy@ltu.edu within a reasonable timeframe. Please note, because of the way we maintain certain services, legal regulations require certain information to be retained plus residual copies of modified information may take a period of time before they are modified on active servers and may remain in our backup systems.

You will need to provide sufficient information, such as your name and other possible identifying information, as a security precaution.

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes to our information practices. If we make any change in how we use your personal information we will notify you by email (sent to the e-mail address specified in your account). We encourage you to periodically review this page for the latest information on our privacy practices.

Use Your Cell Phone as a Document Camera in Zoom

  • What you will need to have and do
  • Download the mobile Zoom app (either App Store or Google Play)
  • Have your phone plugged in
  • Set up video stand phone holder

From Computer

Log in and start your Zoom session with participants

From Phone

  • Start the Zoom session on your phone app (suggest setting your phone to “Do not disturb” since your phone screen will be seen in Zoom)
  • Type in the Meeting ID and Join
  • Do not use phone audio option to avoid feedback
  • Select “share content” and “screen” to share your cell phone’s screen in your Zoom session
  • Select “start broadcast” from Zoom app. The home screen of your cell phone is now being shared with your participants.

To use your cell phone as a makeshift document camera

  • Open (swipe to switch apps) and select the camera app on your phone
  • Start in photo mode and aim the camera at whatever materials you would like to share
  • This is where you will have to position what you want to share to get the best view – but you will see ‘how you are doing’ in the main Zoom session.
