Mary Thomas
Director of Institutional Research
and Academic Planning
Mary Thomas has been with LTU since 1981. In 2000, she was appointed to her current position of Director of Institutional Research and Academic Planning. Over the years she has also worked in the Office of Admissions, the College of Management, and the Provost’s Office.
Mary has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Lawrence Technological University and a Graduate Certificate in Statistical Methods from Oakland University. In addition to her degrees, Mary has studied additional coursework related to her position, particularly from the National Center for Education Statistics.
As Director of Institutional Research and Academic Planning, Mary collects, analyzes, and reports data and in support of the University's mission, decision-making and strategic planning process. She also provides technical support related to the University’s endeavors in the assessment of student learning.
Mary regularly participates in professional organizations such as the National Association for Institutional Research and the Michigan Association for Institutional Research where she has been a member of their steering committee for the past two years.
In her spare time, Mary enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, sewing, reading, and traveling. Mary and her husband, Joel, have been married since 1994.
