Leadership Certificate

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
--Margaret Mead

A multi-track Leadership Certificate is available for students who want to continue their leadership development beyond the required curriculum and graduate with a higher level of recognition from the university. The certificate option is flexible enough so that it meets the needs of traditional, nontraditional, transfer, commuter, and international students because it gives students options as to which track to pursue.

The Leadership Certificate will enable students to structure their experience around their leadership interests and professional goals.

What is the Difference between the Leadership Curriculum and the Certificate?

The Leadership Curriculum is a four-year program required by the university. Students take the leadership courses indicated on the flow charts from their major departments. All undergraduate students must successfully complete the leadership courses in order to graduate. Upon graduation, they are considered "Emerging Leaders." We recognize them as having completed a leadership education with a notation on their transcripts.

The Leadership Certificate is an optional form of recognition that students can achieve by completing co-curricular requirements and portfolio components in addition to the required Leadership Curriculum. Students who complete the Leadership Certificate requirements for one of the three different tracks will be recognized at graduation as a Team Leader, Civic Leader, or Global Leader. These students will receive recognition in the form of a certificate and a notation on their transcript. Students can choose which track of the certificate that they want to earn based on their personal and professional leadership interests.

Portfolios

The portfolio provides a process for students to document, organize, and reflect upon their leadership experiences and achievements at Lawrence Tech. Portfolio documentation processes will be introduced in University Seminar. Throughout the completion of the leadership curriculum and the leadership certificate, students will document their development in their portfolios. Upon graduation, they can use their online portfolios for job searching.
