CATHERINE JUON:
Co-Founder and Catalyst, Pure Visibility Inc. in Ann Arbor. Pure Visibility is an Internet marketing company that is a Google Analytics certified consultant and AdWords certified. The company’s growth, profitability, and job creation successes earned it the 2008 Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center best small business award. Juon discovered the power of the Internet back in the days of IRC and UseNet while teaching abroad in the early 1990s. A Russian Listserv drew her to Moscow to meet a group of students from Eastern Michigan University, one of whom she later married and followed to Michigan (after keeping up a long-distance romance via CompuServe and a VAX terminal). Since then, technology and the Internet have continued to be a powerful influence in her life, which includes a stint at Ford’s Engineering Information Systems Department where she learned HTML in order to build out the department’s first website. Juon parlayed this experience into her own company, Stretch Media, where she helped clients, such as Service Brands International, gain visibility online. She was tapped to speak about search marketing for the Ann Arbor Ad Club in 1998 just as Google was coming on the scene. The biggest industry revolution in those early years was pay-per-click advertising, which continues to be a driver of business for the clients of Pure Visibility. Juon has served on numerous professional boards, including the Ann Arbor Ad Club and Society for Technical Communication. She is an honorary board member of Great Commission Air, an Ann Arbor-based organization providing humanitarian relief through emergency air transport within Guatemala. She received her bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Buena Vista University in Iowa.
