Stern’s extensive litigation experience in complex commercial, securities, and corporate (including federal and state class actions), real estate, products liability, and trademark cases places him in several national and regional rankings. He represents publicly and privately owned corporations, banking institutions, real estate developers, partnerships, and individuals in state and federal trial and appellate courts and arbitrations.. Honigman Miller has been ranked the No. 1 law firm in Michigan for practice areas that Stern is involved in, including corporate/mergers and acquisitions, general commercial litigation, and real estate for the sixth year in a row by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2010. Stern’s professional affiliations include the State, American, and Federal Bar Associations. He is a fellow of the Michigan State and Oakland County Bar Foundations and former president of the latter’s board of trustees. Stern is a member of the commercial advisory council for the American Arbitration Association and is a court-appointed facilitator for Oakland County Circuit Court. Recent recognitions include honors in The Best Lawyers in America 2006–10, DBusiness Top Lawyers 2010, and Michigan Super Lawyers 2007-09. Stern received his BBA from Western Michigan University and his juris doctorate from Wayne State University, where he was senior associate editor of the law review.

WHERE MY FIELD/INDUSTRY IS HEADED: “Last year, the legal field had a pretty rough year. Lots of firms cut lawyers and limited hiring. The press this year talks about the same thing happening. On the other hand, Forbes calls legal discovery ‘America’s true growth industry.’ So areas in the field are still quite active. There is basis for optimism.”

FAVORITE TECHNOLOGICAL GADGET: “My BlackBerry.”

FAVORITE PLACE: “Anywhere I can watch the sunset with my wife.”

FAVORITE HOBBIES: “Gardening. I start my vegetable seeds in the house every spring and transplant my plants. Also, I like to watch my kids’ sporting events.”

FAVORITE FOOD: “Crab and lobster.”

MY HIDDEN TALENT: “I’m actually a pretty decent cook.”
