JAMES SCAPA:
President and CEO of Altair Engineering Inc. of Troy. In 1985, Scapa and two partners founded a small consulting company in the new field of computer-aided engineering. Today, the company employs more than 1,200 employees with offices throughout 13 countries. The company provides product design services, engineering software, and grid-computing technology. Prior to establishing Altair, Scapa served as an engineering consultant to the automotive industry, beginning his career with Ford Motor Co. in 1978. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Scapa was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for technology in 2004. The company has won several awards, including Metropolitan Detroit's 101 best and brightest companies to work for, Automation Alley's technology company of the year, and the Future 50 of Greater Detroit award.
