MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON:
"Of the people Iíve actually known, my father Ė a very resourceful, very enterprising, and very honorable person. And in terms of other influencers, people I donít know personally, Ayn Rand. Individualism, objectivism, hard work, all that kind of stuff. Also Deming and Tom Peters."
LAST BOOK READ:
"Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, for like the fifth time."
WORDS THAT DESCRIBE ME:
"The main thing everybody says is that Iím extremely focused and passionate, some would say obsessive, about the mission that I am working on. The other thing is that I am very driven by design principles and strategic objectives rather than short-term outcomes. I really love getting things done and I really hate anything that gets in the way, like bureaucracy and project plans."
WHERE MY FIELD/INDUSTRY IS HEADED:
"I think traditional software is dead. I think the wave of the future is business solutions provided on demand through the Internet. I also think specialty manufacturing companies wonít be buying and maintaining and customizing their software. They will buy it through the Internet like a utility."
FAVORITE TECHNOLOGICAL GADGET:
"A home theater PC that I built for my kids and myself. "
"In terms of day-to-day stuff, my office. In terms of traveling, a place called Tikal, ancient Mayan ruins rising up out of the rain forest in Guatemala. I really like ruins and ancient history and I really like rain forests and birds. "
"I write novels, literary novels, and techno-thrillers. Bird watching trips are another Ė Iíve been to the Amazon and Central America and places like that."
MY HIDDEN TALENT:
"The ability to work with and motivate people. Thatís whatís made Plexus so successful, the people who do the work and build it. Typically you donít think of an engineer computer geek-kind-of-guy as having people skills Ė thatís why I say itís a hidden talent."
HOW I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED:
"As someone who set out to design and build the best manufacturing information system on the planet, and is still striving to succeed at that. Also, just as an honorable person in my personal life and business activities."
