SEVIS

What is SEVIS?
SEVIS stands for Student and Exchange Visitor Information System.  It is the United States' automated system for information collection about students and exchange visitors from their entry to their exit of the United States.  Any person who wishes to enter the United States as a student or exchange visitor will need to participate in SEVIS and pay the fee to administer and maintain the SEVIS program.

How much is the fee?
The fee is typically $200, but varies depending on a few variables.  Lawrence Tech recommends you visit the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) website for further information: www.ice.gov.  Spouses and dependent children (F-2, M-2, or J-2) of students and exchange visitors and exchange visitors participating in a federally sponsored program (program code beginning with G-1, G-2, or G-3) do not pay the fee.  To pay the fee, you must fill out the form I-901.  You can fill out the form and pay the fee online with a credit card or learn about other methods of payment by visiting the SEVIS I-901 Fee website for the US ICE.  There are no waivers of the fee available.

When should the fee be paid?
The fee can be paid after you receive your I-20 or DS-2019.  The fee must be paid electronically or received in the mail at least three days prior to the scheduled visa interview date.
