Health Insurance
It is University policy that all international students have health insurance. LTU has a list of recommended health insurance programs. Sometimes the terms can be confusing, so the following definitions may be helpful:
Obtain: Health insurance plans can be obtained in your home country or the United States.
Coverage: Health insurance must contain coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation.
Co-pay: The amount that you will be required to pay each time you visit a doctor or fill a prescription. Your co-pay will vary based on what insurance you purchase, but it will usually range from $5 - $30 USD.
Deductible: Some insurance companies will only help cover costs if the total expense is over a certain amount. For example, if your deductible is $300 and your total expense is $100 you will be required to pay the full $100. However, if your total expense is $500, you will will pay your $300 deductible and the insurance company will pay the remaining $200.
Premium: The cost of your insurance policy - be sure to check if it is a monthly or annual premium.
Pre-existing Condition: A health condition that you had before you purchased your new health insurance.
Exclusion: Your health insurance will not cover anything designated as an exclusion.
