Reminder: Never leave your laptop in your car!

Not only does it invite theft, but the cold temperatures in winter can cause the screen to shatter.

Protect yourself by keeping your laptop in your personal possession at all times.

New Help Desk Printing Procedure

In order to move to a cleaner, greener, and more economical campus, we have decided to  release print outs manually at the Help Desk. To receive print outs, simply ask one of the Help Desk staff  to release your print outs after sending them to the C203 printer.  This process is mediated with a third-party program that enables quick and easy monitoring and release of any print job. Implementing this policy will save paper and money.

Symantec Anti-Virus Update

Your Symantec Anti-Virus icon should show a green dot in front of the sheild on the lower right side. If your anti-virus icon doesn't show this green dot, please come to the Help Desk and we'll update your Symantec Anti-Virus software (SEP).

Disposing of Media

Do you have old DVDs or CDs with confidential or personal data which you would like to dispose of?  The IT Department will shred your DVDs or CDs for you.  Just drop your media off at the Help Desk front counter, and we will dispose of it for you.

New Anti-Virus Software Rollout

To continue our communication efforts with our end users, IT Services began its rollout of our new anti-virus/anti-spyware application, Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). All end users may chose to install SEP on their own. Detailed instructions for installation can be found at:
http://defiant.ltu.edu/

To the best of our ability we will “push” the software out to your laptop or desktop computer. At that time, you will see some error messages from your current anti-virus software, Sophos. You will need to uninstall Sophos at that time. Detailed instructions for removal of Sophos are also provided at: http://defiant.ltu.edu/

You may also visit the help desk with your laptop computer for personalized service from our Help Desk technicians. You should allow at least 15 minutes for the process from beginning to end. Desktop users will be visited by our staff in person, if the install has not been handled by the user.

Please note: All LTU owned and leased computers are required to have installed on them our new anti-virus product, SEP. Upon installation, users are not authorized to uninstall or alter the product in any way.

If you attempt installation of SEP on your own, you must be the administrator of the machine. Instructions for making yourself an administrator, "Restoring Administrator Rights on LTU Laptops," can be found on this page below this notice. If you need assistance, Help Desk personnel will be available during our regular hours to assist you.
