Schedule:

As of October 7, 2009, all Lawrence Tech email accounts have been migrated to Webmail by Google.

How will this new change affect my email?

When your new account is created, your current mailbox will stop receiving new mail. All incoming messages will be directed to the new mailbox.

Will I still have all my old email?

Yes. Your current mailbox will be migrated to your new Google Apps mailbox. This would be a good time to clean up your mailbox to ensure only messages you need to keep are moved to the new mailbox.

  • All your messages brought from the old email server will be labeled Migrated.

  • If you have any folders in your mailbox, the folder names will appear as labels in your new mailbox. For example, if you have a folder called 'Project' in your old mailbox, messages in this folder will be labeled 'Project' in your new inbox.  If you have subfolders, the subfolder name will appear after the top level folder separated by a forward slash.  For example, if you have a subfolder called 'Accounts' in your Inbox folder, the label 'Inbox/Accounts' will be given to these messages.

How will I access my new email account?

You can login using the same webmail URL as before: http://webmail.ltu.edu.

After your account has been moved to Google Apps, click on the Webmail by Google link.

If your account has not been moved to Google Apps yet, click on the Communigate Webmail link.

Will I use the same Username that I use to log in to mail now?

 NO.

We are creating new usernames for Google Apps email for Lawrence Tech.  You'll login using your new username and password.

To locate your new email username, login to BannerWeb and click on Personal Information.  Then click on View Email addresses.  Your new email account will be listed under Campus Email Address.

The Banner campus address shows the current working University email address.  This will be updated when your email account has been migrated to Google Mail. You will be notified immediately before your email account is migrated to Google Mail. Until then, continue to use your existing email address to access your email through Communigate Webmail.

Usernames will be created using the first name initial and up to 8 characters of the last name.  If there is a conflict with another username, the last name will be shortened and a number added to create unique usernames.  Usernames can have no more than 9 characters in total. Most current usernames will not change but some will be shortened to 9 characters.

Eventually, this new username will be used to access all Lawrence Tech systems including BannerWeb, Blackboard and more.

Will I use the same email Password that I use now?

NO.

You will be assigned a new email password.  Your initial password will be your birthdate in MMDDYY format.

You will be required to change your initial password when you login for the first time.

People use my current username to contact me. How will they know which email address to use?

Your current username will become an alias to your new username. Any mail addressed to your old username will be delivered to your new account.  You may continue to use your old email address in your correspondence.  However you must use the new username to log in to your mailbox.

In addition, the Lawrence Tech domain, @ltu.edu, will be preserved.  Mail sent from your new account will be identified as from Lawrence Tech:  username@ltu.edu

Over time, you may want to let others know your new email address.
