After attaining the rank of Associate professor, he decided to put his mathematical knowledge to work. He joined Electronic Data Systems as a professional software developer. While at EDS he led a major enhancement to the geometric modeling foundation of the Computer Aided Design software system used by General Motors. After completing that five year and multi-million dollar project he collaborated with General Motors Research Laboratories, derived a theoretical foundation and implemented a new design system based on those theoretical results. He then transferred to Unigraphics Solutions and contributed to an advanced die design system.
In 1999, drawn by a desire to fertilize more minds with a love of mathematics and the utility of the computer he joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Lawrence Technological University as its chair. Since that time, he has provided leadership for the department as the Computer Science program was revised, new special purpose labs were developed, the Master of Science in Computer Science program has blossomed and the use of laptops has permeated the undergraduate curriculum.
