Welcome to the
COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

The College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Tech is among the 30 oldest schools of architecture in the United States. Its mission is to provide a broad architectural and design education that synthesizes diverse approaches, disciplines, and human resources. Because architecture and design success depends on supportive harmony with all creative disciplines, the architecture and design programs at Lawrence Technological University are based on a balanced curriculum establishing a broad inter-disciplinary foundation for the professional pursuit of architecture, interior architecture, facility management, and imaging. Because architecture and design cannot be created in isolation, programs include studies in technology, the arts, the physical and social sciences, economics and law.

Indeed, the program integrates the sciences, mathematics and humanities with the design process in a creative relationship which recognizes human concerns, social responsibilities and the technological disciplines of the built environment. The first year of all undergraduate programs provides an introduction into the world of creativity, design and representation. A liberal education in cultural history and awareness in the second year is integrated with the application of design methods, concepts, and theories. The third and fourth years are an exploration of thought and design philosophy through technological, analytical and conceptual integrations.

You will participate in field trips and real-world assignments for community development and renewal efforts, to give you a clear understanding of how projects are planned, designed, and built. Overall, this combination of a thorough, varied curriculum and firsthand experience is designed to give you a solid base for continued studies and, ultimately, a successful career in a complex and fast-changing world.

Lawrence Tech believes the person that is educated as a generalist and focused on the creative process is better prepared to cope with the complex demands dictated by contemporary society.
